Norfolk, (15 October 2026) – EPL Norfolk Limited is announcing plans and a community consultation for Longmarsh Green Energy, a proposed solar and battery project co-located with a data centre campus near Kings Lynn in west Norfolk.
The project is split into the Western Site, located to the northeast of the village of Tilney St Lawrence, and the Eastern Site, near to the villages of Fincham and Barton Bendish, and would connect into the existing transmission network substation at Walpole. With an expected 2031 connection date it could be providing secure renewable energy, produced in the UK for our homes, businesses, transport systems and industries in around five years.
At the same time, the data centre campus – essential infrastructure for the modern economy and expected to attract over £25bn investment in the region – would support digital services people use every day and contribute to the UK’s objective of AI sovereignty. It would provide thousands of construction jobs, over 500 direct operational roles and support a further 1,500 additional jobs.
The ability to connect to the grid from 2031 is a significant benefit for a project of this size. This region also benefits from significant offshore wind generation that, coupled with the 1.3GW co-located solar generation, would allow the data centre to be powered predominantly from locally sourced renewable energy at a discounted price to the UK average. The data centre campus would use closed loop cooling, where liquid is recirculated rather than continually taking water from the mains, to avoid significant impacts on local water supplies.
A spokesperson for the project said, “Longmarsh Green Energy would bring significant local and national economic benefits, providing secure renewable energy and data centre capacity, both of which are critical for future UK economic growth. Our design includes measures and commitments to reduce local effects, and we welcome feedback on these, together with suggestions regarding how the project could support local community projects and initiatives.”
Community consultation runs from 15 October to 26 November 2026. More information about the proposals and the consultation is available at www.longmarshgreenenergy.co.uk.
